- How to Save Money
No one wants to throw money away, especially whilst times are hard. For Black Cab drivers things haven't been tougher. Having to work longer hours, behind the wheel to make up the money a Black Cab driver would hve normally made now requires 2+ hours a day. So once you have earnt it no point in throwing it away. So we at Lionheart Insurance have put our thinking caps on and have come up with the following recession ideas. If you have some more please get in touch and we'll add them to the list to help the other Black Cab drivers out.
1. Insurance. Of course we are going to say to come to us,but that is because we really have some awesome rates. Lets face it, your black cab insurance premium for the vehicle as well as for PI are your second biggest outlays in a year after fuel. Start with the big areas and see how much we can save you on your annual black cab insurance renewal.
2. Fuel. Keep a notepad in the car to record the fuel prices around your local area and fill up when you are in that last quarter of a tank. No point in saving a penny per litre if you have to travel half way across town to filll up. There are web sites which are updated weekly, telling you where the cheapest fuel is in your area. A savvy black cab driver will look out for this.
3. Tyre pressures. Sounds daft but check your tyre pressures regularly. Not only will this stop the tyres on your black cab wear out unevenly and therefore not last (more cost) but also tyres not inflated to the correct pressure will be more efficient. Better efficiency saves the clever black cab driver money.
3. Servicing. Depending on how mechanical you are check the black cab over. The more work you can do on your black cab, checking oil levels (not jut engine but brake), fluid levels (cooling system, screen washers), will reduce the service costs.
4. Wipers. OK they are not the most expensive item to replace, again if you shop around, but if you can make them last its money in your pocket. Tip: Get an old rag, dampen it with a mixture of water and dish washer rinsing agent. This will clean the blade (often reducing the need to replace it), help protect it and help expel water. Also add a squirt of the rinsing agent to your water washers, this helps to keep water off the windscreen.
5 Electrics. Did you know that everything electrical in the black cab runs off the battery? This battery is then charged by the dynamo connected to the engine. If you are running fans, air con, radios, lights, cigarette lighters (for sat navs etc), these will all drain the battery. The engine then has to work harder to turn the dynamo, therefore uses more fuel. So if you keep the electronic devices being used in the black cab to a minimum then the cab's engine does not have to work as hard and therefore becomes more efficient. You could save yourself up to 5% of your fuel bill by smart thinking.
Black Cab drivers be lucky! Good luck on getting a good deal on your black cab insurance.
